why this spells doom for you and me _
- facebook is allowing marketers and products to access your profile and use you to plug for them
- this is NOT people voluntarily agreeing to talk among themselves about which car ” my son in law ” likes to drive, which vodka happens to be my fave, or which band i particualrly like
- this is YOU FORCING ME to talk about your product
- if i dont X will
- my chatter, friendly banter with the pople i love is no peppered with YOUR greed ? no thanks
- what is FCBKs asset ? its user base
- who is FCBK treating like disposables ? its user base
- myspace was always clear it was agreeing to let people sell junk, myspacers accept this free-for-all, FCBK users are not
- will they get used to it ?
- Coke and CondeNase are willing to throw few dimes FCBKs way to find out, why ? cos its just a few dimes for an experiment, no real money, no real harm
- mark will move to IPO while his cash-cows are still figuring out if the results are good or bad
- he will make a billion or two and bail out
- you and me are staring at a Sprite Sipsread this
- there is a reason beaches and resorts offer services and places of service and not just ads or viral marketingnow read this
- im definitely not going to buy a sprite to enter a sweepstakes to win an iPOD
Here is where mark has miscalcualted -
- i can buy a domain name for 7, 99 / yr, about 50 % what a cinema ticket costs me
- for 7 , 99 and another 1000 / yr i am SURE to find some niche on GOOG Search Results
- something UNIQUE to me
- i am a brand
- when i enable other brands in related categories and of my size, im famous
- when im famous, im a bigger brand, i can expand into other niches, or even carve a few up, or even enter into an established field, im still loves, people still want to advertise with me cos i am loved for ME
- who is FCBK loved for ? hehehehe .. me …. no two ways about me, everything on there is about ME !
- what FCBK has done is - it has taken consumer confidence in what is a FREE networking service and impregnated it with a crappy referral system -
- people want security and privacy, if my friends are going to sell to me, im definitely going to be not happy
- if my so - called friends start to recommend stuff to me, i will have a cursory look
- yet here is the catch, my wife loves indian movies, i detest most of them
- my best friends loves corny jokes, i detest them
- i love heavy metal music, a few of my friends do too
- if 1 % of 50 million are recommending 100 brands to each other, thats a lot of advertising buzz for sure, but it is also a lot to ignore - eg. try getting robert scoble to review your application, i did, he was just too busy he said, but when a company i wil not name sent him a free sample he reviewd it immediately and before telling me he was busy he aksed me ” is this a video bloggin gnetwork ? ” -his attitude was like - im into vlogging, if this isnt going to help me, take a number and stand in line, kiddo
is marks´planning also thus misplaced, like my attempt was ? yes, mark is banking on the gossip of millions to fuel his IPO, users will recommend once, twice, ten times, after that its plain annoying even if they are earning something -
my wife and me are viral marketers for a vaiety of kitchenware, all-natural food products and top end bed-linen - friends tell you politely after 3 times, ” thnx, but im not interested in a new mattress, no matter how good, and im not intersted in spending an evening drinking wine, lets try again next year “
- its just plain BORING, bcos thisnext is already doing just that without being intrusive
- why hasnt one viral system, one pyramid marketing system, one affiliate system made it to the Fortune 1000 list ?
- cos its just plain greed, and greed goes only so far,
- im sure the brands will find mundane ways to keep you gawking - enter a PIN and win a key chain - enter another and enter a contest to win something from a co-sponsor
- mark has forgotten that manufacturers count in units moved, not advertisers and marketers - they just dont know how to count or where to start, having stirred up al lot of hoopla, facebook has now taken the plunge and it is doomed for the same reason Open Social will succeed
- remember myopening point about a domain name being just 7, 99 / yr ? well, Open Social is not forcing me to sell anything, or sell for anyone, on the contrary it allows me to sell my talent, ideas, skill, learning,to buy from others like me and prosper, GOOG will make its money serving non-intrusive ads on my applications - im happy, cos they respected my space and yet invited me to access tools id normally only dream about and profit from it
- thats precisely what greed mr zuckerberg has forgotten, how to respect his users, he thinks he owns them while in fact its the other way around.
