software as a service and how …

… it is changing the work place, the bottomline and our lives

blogging was possible soon as the first dynamic web pages were working, and definitely post hotmail or yahoo mail

dynamic web applications allow interactivity like this -

or this

ie. you can not only comment on what others have written, but you can ” digg ” the peice, you can share it via primitive URL shares or via RSS feeds / other device specific RDF, embed a widgets that imports video or audio, add links in a links page,

when subscribers listen, read or hear you thats an in-tangible mashup …

” mashables ” are high - speed money making machines because a company that embraces the cultural of free ditribution of knowledge weeds out beaurocracy, kills the culture of secretive management, flattens un necessary heirarchies,

and here is why -

to run a good blog

good blog

good blog

one needs to be fairly if not very technically aware - one doesnt need to be a great programmer (im not and yet within 2 years im all over google legally and i even got booted off wordpress temporarily cos someone did not like my review of webex) and cried foul to my use of tags and keywords describing my work

you see blogging is not about journalism alone or about programming alone, good blogging is about knowing how and also why people read what they do

when you use a super service like wordpress and get tagged and indexed by google (although i must confess my indexing happened in the first instance exclusively by accident and happnestance) you are allowing a large audience to find your ideas, when your blog then allows atleast trackbacks, comments, syndication, if not the ability to use an external or internal service to create an independent entity that includes snippets of your ideas on yahoo pipes or popfly like services

(bob scoble for eg. (and know this isn an attmept to inundate my page with links, jeez i dont think anybody even reads what i write, i do it cos i livelove it) ) has his cell phone number on his page which i think is wonderful, incidentally JAJAH has a mozilla plugin that llows one to clik on a tel number in a web page and dial from the browser

the use of all these services, the ability to keep up with the evolution of internet services, requires a human with more than cut and paste skills,

when a company hires a team - member that has the skills and the drive to keep up with the ever evolving technology world, they are doing themselves a favour, they are hiring a team member that can contribute to the enterprises knowledge bank (cos that is the purpose of the evolution of IT, to distribute information freely and fast across boundaries ) rather than just take from it

and thats just the geek-side of the story, when an account manager canbe told at a restaurant that his client is launching a new project and is calling for open-bids from the market, when a surgeon at home can be told of the precise state of a patient, when a girl holidaying in the amazon can be told that she has been accepted to harvard within minutes of the decision, when govt issued news statements are avaialble to traders or journalists not on a public platofrm but on personal services and devices we all gain a tremendous amount of lead time , sure it means that we need to be ” online ” all thetime but the sinking costs of high-speed internet makes this very easy,

so we have three factors here -

  1. always online and having information pushed to you in a format you can edit and share
  2. a world- wide net allowing ” virtual presence “
  3. requirement of the users to remain at the crest or close to the crest of

to me this spells the possibility of a distributed enterprise, ie. you are no longer bound to hire those who live within reasonable commute, you can hire the best talent anywhere on this planet, they can work on their own time co - ordinating with their team via video conferencing and collaboration tools,

so collaboration tools like forums and blogs enable themselves, (ie. collaboration tools enable collaboration causing evolution to move faster than without collaboration) thus making them indispensable bring us to this
